Who We are
In business since 1989, the ALS Group was born when the Joubert brothers and a friend, James Honiball, started building dams in order to utilize their tractors in the off seasons on their farms in the Newcastle area. When they landed the Koppies dam project it catapulted the business into an era of new partnerships and opportunities while still expanding the farming operations as well. After a plant hire partnership was added in 1995, business evolved to include contracting in the civil construction and mining industries. Plant hire partners specializing in various machines and a building contractor joined ALS during the first 10 years of the new millennium while the past few years saw property development and human resource solutions being added to the operations of the ALS group.
Currently the ALS Group comprises a group of individuals sharing the same vision and business ethics and who are equally excited about business prospects in South Africa.
The story of our name: When the Joubert brothers and James Honiball completed the first month of their contract at a mine near Ermelo, they needed a registered company in order to invoice the client. James Honiball made the trip to Pretoria to do the paperwork, but the company names they decided on the day before weren't available. He decided to register the company as Als Siviel, “Als” of course meaning ‘everything’ in Afrikaans. The name stuck and all subsequent companies added to the group came with the Als prefix, usually written in capital letters. James Honiball sadly passed away shortly afterwards when he was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident but the name he picked that day, still holds.
